East High...Class of '09!

Suli Taumoepeau and her cousin Makoni were part of East High School's 2009 graduating class. I had so much fun working on this cake. Two tiered 'Tru Chocolate' with coconut buttercream covered and decorated in fondant. This cake made me want to break out in a 'H.S.M.' song while doing the 3rd time step. Yes, I tap dance....hahahahaha....and so does Ana and Nela (BUSTED!). Anyways, congrats to BIG MAMA Suli for your accomplishments thus far in your life. Take advantage of the time you have and follow your dreams. You'll do great!!!!

Tukuafu/ Tuifua Wedding

I had the opportunity to work on the wedding cake for the Bride, Sela. How this all came about is not your typical wedding cake consultation scenario. Hilarious because I didn't meet the bride till 3 wks. before the wedding even though the cake design had already been chosen (which is not your typical wedding consultation) but hey, no discrimination here at Sugar Plum Cakes. So after meeting with the bride and a few of her family members we finalized the wedding cake. 5 tiers and 4 satellite cakes were to make up this 56" tall (including the table) cake. Top two tiers were strawberry cake with coconut filling. The four satellite cakes were milk chocolate cake with coconut filling and the bottom 3 tiers of the wedding cake were....well, they were their money saving tips and tricks that I offered as another option to achieve the look that they wanted...which was GRAND. The bottom three tiers of the main cake were fondant covered filler cakes. It helps with height for grand wedding cakes but does not tack on the 'GRAND' price tag. There you have it, the cake of the week......

Monday Madness...

This was a busy week for Sugar Plum Cakes. Family obligations that needed to be filled and of course...CAKES CAKES CAKES! The 'Yuck Mouth' is now exiting our home after over staying its visit by 2 weeks. Graduation for #3 and a visit to a 'friends' house. And what's a post without pictures.....

Yuck Mouth...per Uncle Na.

"Yuck Mouth" is a term my brother Nela came up with. But that is the perfect alternative name to Herpangina. My family has been plagued with this since the 15th of May and slowly each child is coming out of it. I know it doesn't sound cute cause even I said to the Pediatrician, "Herpes-what?!?". No alarm though....it's just a painful mouth infection. Dr. says DD must've picked it up at school...GREAT! I do know that I'd rather one child bring this home and pass it on to my other children than to bring home the dreaded hair monsters....LICE! So, now you know...not much blogging till the YUCK MOUTH is gone! Till next time....drink lots of milk and water children!

Monday Madness...

My 'Monday Madness' is a re-cap of the weekend. I've been working on a cake for the past month and have finalized EVERYTHING with the clients this past friday. I can honestly say that I have never had clients like these guys before. Yes, MEN...choosing the brides cake. And if I could be a bride all over again, I would have these two design my cake. I think its because I've never worked on a cake like this before. I was telling DH last night that I am soooo stoked about not only working with people who know what they want but are choosing to step outside of the box and not going with the typical TONGAN BRICK cake with pure white buttercream icing. So now the count down begins and it's now less than two weeks away. I have tons to prep and making my list and checking it twice. I was planning on giving a teaser on what is expected but my camera is broken....'doom on you' camera! So, I guess we'll have to wait till the actual wedding for pics....Happy Monday ya'll!
